Hello fabulous mamas!

So, the day has come when your little warriors are ready to share a room. Whether it’s out of necessity or the boys' request for an epic sleepover every night, you’re now tasked with creating a space that’s as functional as it is stylish. Fear not, for I have embarked on this journey myself, and I’m here to share the fabulous (and sometimes funny) insights I've gathered. Buckle up, stylish moms, because we’re about to make magic happen!

First things first: Bunk beds are a lifesaver. Not only do they save a ton of space, but they also add a sense of adventure for the kiddos. I remember the day we introduced the bunk bed to our boys. The sheer excitement was akin to announcing a trip to Disneyland! They immediately started arguing over who gets the top bunk (naturally). Here's a pro tip: To avoid squabbles, implement a “Top Bunk Tuesday” system, where they rotate weekly. Trust me, it works wonders and adds a fun ritual to their week. Plus, you get to see the pride on the face of the "Top Bunker" every Tuesday morning.

Even though they’re sharing a room, it’s crucial to give each boy a sense of ownership over their space. This doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Simple things like personalized bedding, name plaques, or a dedicated shelf for their treasures can do the trick. I went a step further and let each of my boys choose a theme for their side of the room. One side screams “Dinosaur Kingdom” while the other is a mini “Race Car Arena.” Yes, it’s a bit of a design clash, but seeing their faces light up every time they enter their room is worth the sacrifice of aesthetic coherence.

Ah, storage. The bane of every mother’s existence. But in a shared room, smart storage solutions are your best friend. Think under-bed storage bins, dual-purpose furniture, and plenty of shelves.I have a little anecdote here. One morning, I found the boys in a heated debate over whose toy car collection had invaded whose territory. That’s when I decided to label everything. From bins to shelves, everything now has a designated spot. We even turned clean-up time into a game – whoever tidies up the fastest gets an extra story at bedtime. Suddenly, tidying up became the most exciting part of the day!

As a fashionista mom, you know how important it is for a space to look good while being practical. Choose a neutral base for the room – think whites, greys, or pastels – and let the boys' personalities shine through the accessories. This way, you can easily switch up the decor as they grow (and as their interests inevitably change). Don’t forget the importance of a good rug. It ties the room together and provides a comfy spot for play. We opted for a stylish geometric pattern that hides the wear and tear and looks chic enough to make me happy every time I walk in.

Another trending and super useful idea is to create a cozy nook within the shared space. A small tent, reading corner, or bean bag area can offer a quiet retreat for either boy when they need a bit of alone time. This nook can be a lifesaver when one needs to cool off after a sibling squabble or just wants to dive into a book without distraction. We decided to set up a teepee tent in one corner of the room, complete with fairy lights and a pile of cushions. It quickly became the favorite spot for both boys to unwind. And, might I add, it doubles as a perfect hiding spot for a quick game of hide-and-seek or a spontaneous giggle fest.

Creating a shared space for your boys is a beautiful, sometimes chaotic, adventure. It's about blending functionality with fun and ensuring that both little individuals feel valued and comfortable in their shared sanctuary. And remember, mamas, perfection is not the goal. It's the love, laughter, and little moments of peace (however fleeting) that make the room perfect for your children. So embrace the mess, the noise, and the joy that comes with a shared room. Cheers to stylish, shared spaces and the wonderful chaos of motherhood!

With love,

xoxo
